In the convergence between the new trends in film documentaries and the attention that studies on genocide and mass violence have given to the figure of the perpetrator in recent years, a set of phenomena that had been studied in relation to victims, such as reenactment, trauma and bodily memory, have recently been applied to the confessions of the perpetrators. The aim of this article is to address the forms of this mutation of the documentary, as well as the need for a critical analysis of the sources, tested in the research on audiovisual testimonies of victims. The text uses as an axis of reflection some examples referring to the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia: in particular, the films Enemies of the People (Thet Sambath and Rob Lemkin, 2009) and Duch, le maître des forges de l’enfer (Rithy Panh, 2011).
