What do the photographs of human humiliation from Abu Ghraib, the Auschwitz album and the photos of prisoners torn by the torturers of the most ferocious dictatorships in Chile, Argentina, Brazil or Cambodia have in common? Beyond their content, they are all perpetrator images: they embody the point of view of the perpetrators of mass crimes or their accomplices as they carry out their violent acts, while compelling us as spectators to look at the pain of others through the eyes of those who caused it. La muerte en los ojos proposes a method for analysing this visual modality in photography, film and video, combining historical rigour with the technical and stylistic instruments of the image, not only of what is visible, but also of what is hidden behind the limits of the frame.
